USER MANUAL
RF-01 v1.0.0
Interface Overview
The RF-01 interface is divided into three areas:
- Top Bar — Brand display, status indicators, and function buttons: CTRL, CRT, FULL, OUT, TXT, IMG, FILE, SYS, LIVE, REC, and the PWR LED.
- Visual Area — The main viewport where GPU-rendered visuals are displayed in real time.
- Control Panel — Accessed via the CTRL button. Contains three tabs: GFX (pattern selection), KNOBS (parameter adjustment), and PALETTE (color tuning).
Audio Input
RF-01 supports three audio input methods. Only one can be active at a time.
Captures audio from a microphone or connected audio input device. On macOS, clicking LIVE automatically opens a device picker panel when multiple inputs are detected — select your audio interface, DJ mixer, or other input device. The panel can be reopened anytime via the ▾ button next to LIVE. Hot-plugged devices are detected automatically.
Loads an audio file (MP3, WAV, FLAC, etc.) for playback. The foot pedal at the bottom of the screen toggles play/pause. Audio is played through speakers and analyzed simultaneously.
macOS only. Captures all system audio output — any sound playing on your Mac is routed directly to RF-01 for analysis. No external software required. Requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. On first use, macOS will prompt for Screen & System Audio Recording permission.
Patterns (GFX)
14 generative visual patterns, each driven by audio frequency data. Select one or more from the GFX panel to layer them. Each pattern has independent speed and opacity faders.
| SMOKE | Organic fluid simulation with turbulent FBM noise |
| VORONOI | Animated Voronoi cell division |
| WAVE | Multi-directional sine wave interference |
| LINES | Flowing line field with bass-reactive warping |
| RING | Concentric ring distortion |
| CELLS | Biological cell-like Voronoi with smooth edges |
| GRAIN | High-frequency granular texture |
| AQUA | Water caustic refraction patterns |
| KALEID | Kaleidoscopic mirror symmetry |
| AURORA | Atmospheric aurora borealis effect |
| FIRE | Upward-flowing flame simulation |
| MATRIX | Falling character streams |
| GRID | Geometric grid overlay with glow |
| RIPPLE | Expanding ripple and particle system |
Parameters (KNOBS)
8 knobs control the visual output. Drag vertically to adjust. Right-click to enable LFO auto-play for automated modulation.
| DECAY | Controls trail persistence. Higher values create longer-lasting afterimages from the feedback loop. |
| NOISE | Adds organic distortion to the visual field. Creates a natural, hand-drawn quality. |
| GRIT | Applies granular texture roughness to the output. Adds analog character. |
| COLOR | Controls iridescence intensity via the IQ cosine palette. Higher values produce more vivid color shifts. |
| SPEED | Global animation velocity. Affects the time progression of all active patterns. |
| ZOOM | Viewport scale. Lower values zoom in, higher values zoom out. |
| ROTATE | Spatial rotation. Center position (50) is stationary. Values above or below 50 rotate in opposite directions. |
| DIRT | Background grain processing. Adds subtle noise to the background layer. |
CRT Effects
Toggle the CRT button to enable post-processing that simulates analog CRT monitor aesthetics:
- Chromatic aberration — RGB channel offset
- Bloom — Soft glow diffusion
- Scanlines — Horizontal line pattern
- RGB subpixel mask — CRT phosphor simulation
- VHS noise + glitch bands — Analog tape artifacts
- Dust particles — Floating debris overlay
- Vignette — Edge darkening
External Display
Click OUT on macOS to open a dedicated VJ output window. Drag this window to an external display or projector for clean, full-screen visuals without UI elements. On iOS, connect via HDMI adapter or AirPlay — the iPhone becomes your controller while visuals are displayed on the external screen.
Recording
Click REC in the top bar to start recording. Click again to stop. On macOS, a save dialog will appear to choose the destination. The output is a video file with synchronized audio (WebM format). On iOS, recordings are saved as H.264 + AAC to your photo library.
Text & Image Overlay
TXT — Opens the text overlay panel. Enter text, select a font, adjust size, position, and color. Text is rendered with the same CRT effects as the visuals. Audio reactivity for text can be independently adjusted via R:TXT in the PALETTE panel.
IMG — Opens the image overlay panel. Load any image to blend it with the visual output. Adjust opacity, position, and audio reactivity independently.
iOS Notes
- Double-tap the screen to show/hide all controls.
- Portrait and landscape orientations are both supported. The control layout adapts automatically.
- External display output is available via HDMI adapter or AirPlay.
- Audio input on iOS is microphone-only. The SYS (system audio) feature is not available on iOS.
- Recording saves H.264 + AAC video to your photo library.
